Nuclear Engineer

A nuclear engineer has a range of responsibilities at a nuclear power plant, including helping to develop complex troubleshooting plans to support plant operations. A nuclear engineer also monitors, assesses, and improves the performance and reliability of plant systems and components.


Nuclear Engineer Skills:

  • Use system indicators to monitor equipment performance or degradation.
  • Identify and pursue material condition improvements, including predictive and performance-centered maintenance optimization.
  • Perform independent research, reviews, studies, and analyses in support of technical projects.
  • Design and oversee the construction and operation of nuclear reactors and power plants.
  • Monitor operations at a nuclear facility to ensure all safety rules and laws are followed.
  • Perform experiments that provide information about how to use and dispose of nuclear material.

Nuclear Engineers also need to:

  • Communicate effectively verbally and through writing.
  • Have integrity and follow the standards of the company and engineering profession.
  • Understand the importance of hard work and have a positive attitude.
  • Anticipate what needs to be done and take action.
  • Work cooperatively with others.
  • Identify and solve problems in a systematic way.

Education/Experience Needed:
